Sebago is located on the western shore of Sebago Lake in Cumberland County, Maine. The town is home to several lakes, ponds and mountains, making it a popular vacation destination. Several inns, hotels, camps and vacation homes are located in Sebago.
Sebago was originally called Flintstown and was granted by the Massachusetts General Court in 1774 to the survivors of Captain John Flint's company of soldiers from Concord, Massachusetts. This granting replaced the1735 grant of Township No. 3 ( which is now Walpole, New Hampshire) This ealier grant was rulled invalid due to the redrawing of the border between New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Flintstown was then incorporated as Baldwin on June 23, 1802 and then again on February 10, 1826, Sebago was set off from Baldwin and incorporated as a separate town.
According to the 2010 U.S. Census Bureau, Sebago was home to 1,719 residents. However, the town’s population increases to about 5,000 people during the summer months, with seasonal residents and tourists.
